Frozen Margarita

A frozen margarita combines crushed ice, fresh lime juice, tequila, and orange liqueur blended into a frosty, slushy drink with a vibrant, icy texture. The process involves crushing ice, squeezing citrus, and blending until smooth, resulting in a refreshing beverage with a bright, tangy flavor and a slightly granular, icy appearance.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups crushed ice preferably finely crushed for optimal texture
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice about 2 limes
  • 1 1/2 oz blanco tequila or silver tequila
  • 1/2 oz triple sec or Cointreau orange liqueur
  • 1 dash salt for rimming the glass
  • 1 tsp simple syrup optional, for added sweetness

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Rolling pin or mallet

Method

  1. Place the crushed ice into a sturdy plastic bag and crush it with a rolling pin or mallet until the pieces are jagged and powdery, creating a snowy, textured ice.
  2. Pour the freshly squeezed lime juice into the blender, allowing the vibrant aroma of citrus to fill the air as it hits the icy base.
  3. Add the tequila and triple sec to the blender, giving the mixture a warm, boozy aroma that promises a lively sip.
  4. Toss in the crushed ice, filling the blender nearly to the top, and secure the lid tightly.
  5. Pulse the blender several times, listening for the satisfying crackle of ice as it begins to blend into a thick, slushy consistency. Stop when the mixture is uniformly icy and smoothly blended.
  6. Run the blender on a low setting or pulse briefly to ensure everything is well combined and the texture is creamy and frosty.
  7. Moisten the rim of your glasses with a lime wedge, then dip them into salt spread out on a small plate to coat the edges with a salty crunch.
  8. Spoon the icy margarita mixture into the prepared glasses, filling them generously until heaping and frosty.
  9. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim, and serve immediately for the best icy texture and vibrant flavor.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of flavored liqueurs or a splash of fruit juice. Use fresh lime juice for the brightest flavor, and crush your ice finely for the best texture.
